The 2G scandal has become one of the largest financial corruption cases in history of India. Telecommunications and IT Ministry A.Raja is considered to be responsible for the entire scam.  According to the investigation performed by the CBI the scam worth 200,000,000,000.  

In this scam, the telecom bandwidth tender was undervalued and offered to a preferred few on a dubious 'First-Come-First-Served' basis instead of a transparent auction system, advised by higher offices (PMO). A.Raja was forced to resign on14th of November. Currently, A.Raja has been arrested and under scrutiny of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Apart from A.Raja , several bureaucrats are found to involved  at the time of the 2G allocation including Siddhartha Behura (former telecom secretary), P. J. Thomas (Secretary of the Department of Telecommunications ), Pradip Baijal (a bureaucrat ) ,  and R K Chandolia (private secretary of Raja ).In this scam , several well-known media persons liaised as corporate lobbyist  including Nira Radia (a former airline entrepreneur turned corporate lobbyist  accused in  Nira Radia tapes controversy), Barkha Dutt (an NDTV journalist ) , and Vir Sanghvi ( a Hindustan Times editor ). 

The telecommunication companies involved in the 2G spectrum licensing scam are Reliance Communications, Uninor( Unitech Group) , Loop Mobile , Videocon Telecommunications Limited , S Tel , Sistema Shyam Mobile (MTS) , Vodafone Essar , Dishnet Wireless and Allianz Infra. The 2 G scam has highly impacted the stock prices of the companies accused. Anil Ambani's Reliance ADAG stocks have fallen by 20%. 

Several activist lawyers, journalists, ex-vigilance commissioners and politicians have taken initiative in writing letters to the Prime Minister and bringing the issue into the public limelight. Subramaniam Swamy, Paranjoy Guha Thakurta, Prashant Bhushan and Anil Kumar write on the irregularities in the awarding of 2G spectrum allocation by the Telecom Ministry and petitioned in the suits filed by civil society groups.
