Microsoft is implementing new privacy tools in Internet Explorer 8 (IE8) that insiders are calling "porn mode." "Porn mode," which will debut in IE8 Beta 2 this month, consists of three tools, one of which is called InPrivate Browsing and allows you to browse without IE8 saving your browsing and searching history, cookies, form data and passwords. It also automatically clears the browser cache at the end of your session. Niiiiice. Satellite navigation systems have become increasingly popular gadgets in recent years. And indeed, it can be extremely helpful if you just need to listen to that friendly voice guiding you safely to your destination, instead of constantly having to stop at the roadside to check your map. But then again, how often have you been shaking your fists at a driver who has caused you to swerve because they suddenly decide that their high-tech satellite navigation system has told them they need to go right behind the next bend? DETROIT: Hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles are still 15 years away from becoming a viable business for automakers even if they overcome remaining technical hurdles and the U.S. government provides massive subsidies, a government-funded report said on Thursday. Under a best-case scenario, automakers will only be able to sell about 2 million electric vehicles powered by fuel cells by 2020, according to the study by the National Research Council. That would mean that less than 1 per cent of the vehicles on US roads by that date would be powered by fuel cells. In 2003, President George W. Bush had proposed spending $1.2 billion to develop fuel cells and infrastructure. At that time, Bush said the first cars driven by American children born in that year and reaching driving age by 2020 could be fuel cell vehicles. |

Recently, a leading UK business website revealed that they now have to spend over 25% of their online search marketing budget to cater for misspelt words, hinting towards a worrying trend in today’s society and suggesting we may have become too reliant upon technology, while our language skills suffer as a result. With over 50% of English school leavers failing to grasp even the most basic levels of spelling and grammar there is an argument for closer monitoring on the country’s education system and how technology is impacting upon the country’s young minds. Perhaps the finest example of how the English language is being “dumbed down” can be seen through the ever popular SMS messaging service where there is a tendency to use abbreviated or phonetically spelt words to increase the speed of communication. |
